Iowa Invaded by Pesky Emerald Ash Borer
Authorities have confirmed that Iowa now has to deal with an invasion of the Emerald Ash Borer bug. Spotted in the town of Creston, the Emerald Ash Borer is an Asian beetle that attacks ash trees. It is considered one of North America’s most destructive tree pests.
About one third to half of the ash trees that the beetle infests will die. The Emerald Ash Borer kills trees by drilling into the bark and destroying the tissues that conduct water to the tree.
